Youth Work Central

Supporting Us

Tens of thousands of young people across the country are enrolled in after-school programs, camps, and youth programs that are staffed by youth workers. Youth workers must provide young people with a safe, structured, supportive environment. Their work has a lasting effect – building the skills and assets necessary for young people to develop into healthy and productive adolescents and adults.

Unfortunately, few organizations that operate youth programs have the resources and infrastructure necessary to train their youth workers effectively. Thus, youth workers must rely on their own experiences and commitment to do the job. They may never have the opportunity to learn the basic competencies that can make a good youth worker great, or turn a vocation into a meaningful career.

This is where the BEST Initiative – and you – come in.

The BEST Initiative provides free and low-cost leadership development, staff training, supervisor training, technical assistance, and career support to develop youth work as a profession and build youth worker capacity for creativity, guidance, and leadership.

BEST’s work is accomplished through the generosity of foundations, community partners, government agencies and individuals.
